A Winning Moment for ISG Jubail at MATHCOUNTS 2025

ISG Jubail’s young mathematicians, guided by Mrs. Preetha Nataraj, once again demonstrated their passion, perseverance and problem-solving skills during the 2025 MATHCOUNTS competition season. Now in its second year of official participation in the national program, the ISG Jubail team of students represented our school with enthusiasm, resilience and a strong sense of community.
The MATHCOUNTS Foundation, established in 1983 by the National Society of Professional Engineers, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and CNA Insurance, has been a leader in promoting excellence in mathematics education.
This year, 36 students from the three ISG campuses of American School Dhahran, ISG Dammam and ISG Jubail competed in four challenging rounds: Sprint, Target, Team and Countdown.
The Sprint Round tested individual speed and accuracy with 30 questions in 40 minutes, completed without calculators. In the Target Round, students worked in pairs to solve complex problems using calculators and strategic reasoning. Top scorers from each school were selected to form official four-member teams for the Team Round, where collaboration was key. The final stage, the Countdown Round, brought the top 12 scorers together for a fast-paced, head-to-head challenge with only 45 seconds to answer each question, with no calculators allowed.
ISG Jubail delivered an exceptional performance, finishing just half a point behind the winning team. Their second-place standing reflects the strong mathematical skills, teamwork, determination and supportive spirit that define the ISG Jubail community. One student stood out by earning two individual trophies, one for the Sprint Round and another for the Target Round.
The event was made even more special thanks to three ISG Jubail student volunteers who helped with the logistics of the competition. Their efforts contributed to the smooth running of the day and were deeply appreciated by all.
As students reflected on the experience, many shared that they enjoyed the challenge and the opportunity to connect with peers from other campuses. They appreciated the chance to engage in higher-order thinking and were proud to have earned a spot on the school team.
ISG Jubail celebrates the efforts of all participating students for their hard work, enthusiasm and mathematical talent. With continued support and encouragement, the school looks forward to expanding its participation in future MATHCOUNTS competitions and nurturing a continued love for learning, collaboration and academic growth.
