ISG Jubail Elementary Students Debate with Confidence and Purpose

ISG Jubail’s Elementary Students Debate was an exciting event that brought out the confidence, curiosity and strong communication skills of our young learners. Hosted and organized by Mr. Graham Laing, Mrs. Jayshree Padaychee and Mrs. Komali Abbineni, the debate gave students a chance to explore a variety of topics and compete in teams, presenting different sides of each issue.

Students tackled thought-provoking questions such as “Should Students Grade Their Teachers?” and “Should Schools Offer Home Economics Classes?” In the first debate, one side argued that allowing students to grade teachers would promote fairness and accountability. The opposing team disagreed, stating that children may not be mature enough to evaluate their teachers objectively. In the second debate, one team pointed out that schools have limited budgets and should focus on core academic subjects. Their opponents argued that cooking, sewing and other life skills are just as important as traditional subjects.

Students also debated lighthearted topics like “Pepsi vs. Cola,” combining humor, creativity and persuasive reasoning. All arguments were supported with thoughtful research, examples and evidence.

The judging panel included two high school students and one teacher, who assessed each team based on clarity, logic, teamwork and use of evidence. It was inspiring to see our students speak clearly, organize their thoughts and use rich vocabulary in their arguments.

This debate event gave students an opportunity to think deeply, speak with confidence and consider different perspectives. It was a proud moment for everyone involved, and a memorable experience for all.
