On September 26-28, American School Dhahran made history with two students attending the prestigious AMIS Jazz Festival & Skills Workshop in Düsseldorf, Germany.
The event was an audition/invite only festival for international schools all over the world (schools from Europe, Asia and the Middle East). One ASD student earned the title of 1st chair trombone in the Festival Jazz and performed in the Big Band, playing two solos in the final performance. Another student showcased his skills on baritone saxophone in the workshop, and played three solos in the final performance.
The festival brought together young musicians from around the globe to celebrate their passion for jazz, featuring amazing performances and enriching workshops. Highlights included a fantastic "Combo Night" where small ensembles of piano, electric guitar, bass guitar and drums performed jazz standards. The Workshop Band and Vocal group performed in the afternoon for their peers. Their set list included "Sister Sadie" by Horace Silver, "So Danço Samba" by Antonio Carlos Jobim and "Mr. P.C." by John Coltrane. The Big Band performed on Saturday night and their set list included a jazz version of "Blackbird" by The Beatles, "Barnburner" by Les Hooper and "As" by Stevie Wonder.
We are proud of our students for representing ASD, their dedication to music and their wonderful achievements.
