This year’s WOW Week trip to Greece was a truly memorable adventure for our ASD students. Their trip began in the vibrant city of Athens, where they arrived early, eager to dive into the rich history and culture that awaited them.
Their exploration kicked off with a walk through the bustling Monastiraki Square, where they soaked in the sights and sounds of one of Athens' most famous neighborhoods. That evening, the group was treated to a traditional Greek dinner, followed by an exciting Greek dancing session, setting a fun and festive tone for the days ahead.
The next morning, our students were transported back in time as they visited the Acropolis. They marveled at the grandeur of the Parthenon and explored the treasures housed in the Acropolis Museum. A walk through the Ancient Agora, where Socrates once shared his wisdom, brought the spirit of classical Greece to life in a truly tangible way.
One of the trip’s highlights was a three-island cruise through the Argo-Saronic islands. Students admired the iconic clock tower of Poros, wandered through the charming stone alleys of Hydra, and explored the ancient Temple of Aphaia in Aegina. Each island offered its own unique charm, making the day an unforgettable experience.
In a meaningful addition to their adventure, the students participated in a marine conservation experience in a coastal town. They visited a Sea Turtle Rescue Center and contributed to environmental efforts through a beach cleanup, actively engaging in efforts to protect the ocean and its creatures.
Their journey continued with a visit to Delphi, where they stood in awe of the legendary Temple of Apollo and walked the Sacred Way, surrounded by breathtaking mountain views. From Delphi, they traveled to Nafplion and stopped at the impressive Corinth Canal before heading to Mycenae, where they marveled at the Lion Gate and ancient beehive tombs, uncovering the secrets of King Agamemnon. The day ended with a visit to the remarkable Epidaurus Theater, where students experienced the venue’s legendary acoustics firsthand.
The students also tapped into their creativity with a pottery workshop and participated in an interactive Greek cooking class, where they learned to prepare and enjoy traditional dishes together.
As their journey drew to a close, the group made their way back to Athens, filled with unforgettable memories of history, culture and adventure. From ancient ruins to island escapes and hands-on experiences, this trip to Greece was truly extraordinary—a fitting way to wrap up an unforgettable WOW Week!
