British School Dhahran (BSD) was thrilled to host this year’s Drama Experience during Week without Walls (WOW Week), bringing together ISG students from BSD, American School Dhahran (ASD), and ISG Jubail for an intensive and inspiring week of theatre learning. This unique experience gave students the opportunity to step outside their comfort zones and immerse themselves in the world of physical theatre.
Leading the program was Steve Kirkham, a cutting-edge theatre practitioner from the UK. With his expertise, students explored physical theatre techniques in a safe and supportive environment, pushing their creative and expressive boundaries. Over the course of four days, participants engaged in rigorous workshops, developing skills in movement, storytelling and emotional expression.
The week culminated in a thought-provoking and imaginative performance that captivated the audience. The final piece brought together themes of teenage angst and self-discovery, resonating deeply with those who attended. Students reflected on their journey, expressing amazement at what they had achieved in such a short time.
"I couldn’t believe what we managed to do in four days."
"What we achieved from beginning to end was amazing."
"I never thought I would be able to do anything like that."
Beyond the technical skills, the intensity of the process and the experience created deep connections among participants, and the peer engagement was particularly impactful given the short timeframe. Witnessing young students moved to tears by the performance was a testament to the power of theatre in evoking genuine emotion.
The Drama Experience was more than just a performance—it was a transformative journey of growth, creativity and collaboration. BSD is proud to have provided this platform for students to discover new talents and share meaningful stories through theatre.
Week without Walls is a highly anticipated time during the school year where classroom lessons are halted and replaced with experiential learning and activities that develop new interests, skills, creativity and community relations.
