Middle school students in the Ancient Civilizations class are currently studying Old Mesopotamia, renowned for inventing the first known writing system, cuneiform, around 5000 years ago.
To bring this history to life, students engaged in a hands-on activity where they created their own clay tablets. Using styluses, they emulated the process of ancient scribes, pressing characters into soft clay to form cuneiform symbols.
This interactive experience not only deepens their understanding of Mesopotamia's contributions but also cultivates creativity and collaboration. By connecting with the methods of the past, students gain a meaningful appreciation for the evolution of writing and communication.
