Elementary School Spelling Bee
SHARE
Elementary students from Grades 3-5 participated in a spelling bee on Thursday, June 4. This event was designed to challenge and showcase our students' linguistic prowess. This competition will foster a love for language and encourage healthy academic competition among our students.
Students prepared for the spelling bee throughout the year, at home and in the classroom. Lists of potential words were sent home and displayed in the school. Instruction in the classroom highlighted the words that might be included in the spelling bee.
Students participated in several rounds of the spelling bee. The first round was done in a written format to create an inclusive experience for various students. Students were celebrated after each round for their efforts and proficiency.
The second spelling bee round allowed students to stand up and spell the word out loud. The top 15 students from each section for each grade gathered to compete against each other, spelling increasingly challenging words. The fourth round brought together the top 10 students from each grade level to compete against one another.
The competition highlighted the diligence and preparation of our students as they continued to spell challenging words for several more rounds. It was impressive and students and staff were delighted to cheer on the students.
Participation in events like these not only hones academic skills but also cultivates important qualities like perseverance, sportsmanship and confidence in our students. A special thank you to our teachers and parents for facilitating this experience for our students.
