Job Description
We are looking for a Music & Drama Teacher to join a dynamic department. The successful applicant will work across two schools and primarily be responsible for teaching drama to KS2 at SVS and for teaching drama and music to KS2 and 3 at DBGS (experience of KS1 would be advantageous). The position is primarily responsible for managing and delivering music and drama lessons according to the curriculum developed by the Head of Music. DBGS and Sara Village welcome applicants that are qualified and have class teaching experience including Piano (at least Grade 3) or guitar and second instrument (violin would be an advantage).
The successful candidate will be able to effectively:
- Demonstrate a commitment to the safety and security of children and young people (child protection)
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests
- Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations
- Confer with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to discuss development
- Prepare students for later grades by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks
- Teach students in accordance with National Curriculum expectations
- Direct school plays and productions
- Provide students with necessary feedback, critique, encouragement, and support
- Organise and take students on theatre trips to support their work and knowledge
- Maintain a safe learning environment for students at all times
- Play a full part in the extra-curricular activities for music and drama
- Teach one-to-one instrumental lessons on at least one instrument (strings or piano preferred)
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Headteacher or Principal.
The ideal candidate will have:
Qualifications:
- A minimum of a University degree in the subject area of employment
- Current teacher certification in the required subject area. Certification should be from a recognised and nationally-recognised institution
- Proficiency in playing one or more instruments, including being able to accompany students playing/singing
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience:
- Prior experience as a Music Teacher (primary experience preferred)
- Experience with G Suite/Microsoft Office
- Experience with GarageBand on the Apple platform
- Knowledge of Sibelius an advantage
