We’re looking for a Library Assistant to join our dynamic team. This position is responsible for meeting two important strands to ensure an innovative program in our libraries

1) We are seeking a talented individual to join our team as we strive to meet our Statement of Purpose, ISG Guiding Principles, and ISG System Goals and

2) We are seeking a qualified library assistant to physically process new books, catalog and shelve books, facilitate book check out and return, maintain social media platforms for the LC, assist with visual marketing of books and resources, and support classes of students who visit the library in using the library which may include short tutorials, reading to students, assisting students in finding reading material, etc... The position requires a highly collaborative individual who enjoys working with teachers and students from a range of age groups, subject areas, and curricula.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the safety and security of children and young people (child protection)
  • Utilize and maintain/update the Destiny Platform
  • Collaborate with Library Staff and Librarians to design and create eye-catching, interest-generating book displays to encourage reading across all schools
  • Process new books by importing into Destiny and following library policies for physical processing and protection of resources
  • Take pictures and otherwise document activities in the Library
  • Manage Library webpage and Social Media accounts and keep them up to date with current pictures, articles from librarians, links to upcoming events, and important information
  • Assist with managing Overdrive (e-book) patron accounts, MARC record imports, and access levels
  • Facilitate book and resource circulation at the library front desk
  • Run regular reports necessary for maintaining the library collection and share with librarians and administrators
  • Distribute overdue and lost book notices to students and other patrons
  • Coordinate class scheduling with librarians and prepare library bags and shelf markers for classes
  • Repair damaged library books and resources following professional guidelines and instruction
  • Shelve books as they are returned on a daily basis and keep shelves straight and orderly
  • Assist students in utilizing and accessing resources within the library
  • Support classes of students with finding materials right for them
  • Read portions of books to groups of students
  • Acquire and maintain a working knowledge of ISG District organization policies, practices, and procedures
  • Acquire and maintain a working knowledge of Library organization policies, practices, and procedures
  • Demonstrate outstanding customer service with students, parents, faculty, and staff
  • Demonstrate flexibility and creativity
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and proficiency with order and organization

Qualifications and Knowledge

  • Training in book processing and repair (preferred)
