ISG Learns 2023

On November 16, 2023, the Teaching and Learning Office at ISG hosted the annual ISG Learns conference, which brought all our staff and teachers together for a day of collaboration and learning.

We were also fortunate to have experiential learning facilitator, Ms. Ivy Yan, lead our plenary session with a focus on compassion.

Ms. Yan specializes in working with adults and young learners on topics of wellbeing and deep ecology. Deep ecology is the belief that human life is one of many vital components of a global ecosystem. She integrates engaged mindfulness, Gross National Happiness and deep ecology in innovative approaches that inspire inner transformation and systematic change.

With scientific, researched-based evidence, Ms. Yan guided us through a valuable, inspiring and holistic, structured understanding of compassion and its connection with acceptance, inclusion and respect.

After the plenary session, our staff and teachers engaged in multiple educational breakout sessions that covered topics such as platform-specific training, writing, artificial intelligence, building community, conducting assessments, fostering inclusion, creating dynamic lessons, and compassion and wellbeing in and outside the classroom.

ISG Learns is one of two annual events conducted by the Teaching and Learning Office. These events focus on providing learning experiences, professional development and also embracing the theme chosen by the district’s professional development (PD) committee each year. The PD committee chooses the theme based on student and staff surveys, and this year’s theme is Compassionate Action: Acceptance, Inclusion and Respect.
