Grade 1 Phonics Celebration

The elementary school students continue to build upon their phonics knowledge and share that knowledge with their peers and teachers. Students have been deeply engaged in exploring vowel teams, and on May 9, students showcased their learning journey and creative skills.

Students created a vowel town by brainstorming the different words with vowel teams. They designed posters displaying things in a town that are also part of a vowel team.  From "beach" and "street" to "booth" and "train," the town quickly came to life with a variety of vowel team words.  The project was a hands-on way for them to explore language in an everyday setting and see how the elements come together in fun and creative ways.

Peers and teachers walked through the vowel town, to see the creativity on display and ask questions.
