Elementary Students Prove There’s No Minimum Age to Create Impact in Their Community

The elementary school students at ISG Dammam took advantage of the Week Without Walls to explore, create, innovate and serve in their community.

Students in Grades KG through five explored the world around them with a field trip to the Prince Sultan Science and Technology Center (Scitech) in Khobar. Students learned about the ocean's mysteries in an IMAX movie. They explored the exhibition halls, learning through hands-on activities about the forces of nature, the scientific method, the complexities of the human body, and the natural wonders in the region of Saudi Arabia.  It was delightful to see students so engaged and excited to participate in the learning activities offered at Scitech.

Our Grade 5 students participated in a community service project to enhance the world around them by planting trees along the corniche in Qatif. In conjunction with the local Qatif municipality students spent the morning on Sunday, February 17, planting trees along the corniche and picking up trash along the coast. Students were delighted to support the community and work in harmony with the Saudi Green Initiative Vision 2030 to provide for the protection of natural resources for future generations.

Finally, our elementary students used Week Without Walls (WOW Week) to create and innovate, learning to see how they can create a compassionate impact in their world. Using the empathy to impact framework, students started by exploring their own interests, talents and passions. They learned about what it means to be a changemaker in their community and identified an issue or cause where they wanted to see a change.

Students explored the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and aligned their issue with one of those goals and worked in groups to connect their talents and skills with their issue to be changemakers. They explored issues like poverty, homelessness, conversation and each group developed a plan on how they would use their talents to help create a change. Students wrote songs, skits, created videos and posters to show their commitment to the different issues they identified. They connected their own talents and skills to make a compassionate impact in the world around them.
