BSD Students Embark on Transformative Week Without Walls Journeys Around the World

Students from the British School Dhahran embarked on an unforgettable Week Without Walls adventure, spanning four international service trips and three captivating in-kingdom excursions. The journey began amidst the breathtaking slopes of La Tzoumaz / Verbier, Switzerland, where students honed their skiing skills against the backdrop of snow-capped peaks.

In Zanzibar, students were immersed in the island's natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. They explored pristine beaches, snorkeled over vibrant coral reefs, and encountered dolphins in their natural habitat. Beyond the idyllic scenery, students learned about Zanzibar's conservation efforts, visited the Jozani rainforest to appreciate its diverse wildlife, and gained insight into the island's spice trade history. They also engaged with local communities, discovering how innovative initiatives turn plastic waste into valuable products and experiencing the rhythms of Tarab music.

Paris, France, offered students a blend of cultural immersion and philanthropy. They indulged in French cuisine, cruised along the Seine River, and marveled at iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and the Palace of Versailles. However, it was their partnership with Serve the City Paris that left a lasting impact, as students packed food bags for the homeless and refugees, offering words of encouragement and support in French.

In Cyprus, students delved into the island's rich history and vibrant culture. They explored picturesque villages, visited ancient sites like the Tombs of the Kings, and engaged in cultural exchange activities at the Grammar School. A highlight was the excursion to Troodos mountains, where students marveled at the Kalidonia waterfalls and enjoyed a traditional Cypriot barbecue. Reflecting on their journey, students shared heartfelt testimonials. Asbah fondly recalled the friendships formed and memories made in Cyprus, stating, "My experience on the Cyprus Trip was wonderful. Going with a variety of people concluded in most of us being able to make new friends and amazing new memories to cherish forever." Meanwhile, Youssef emphasized the bonds forged with peers and teachers during the transformative journey, saying, "The trip was an amazing lifetime experience! I got a lot of opportunities to come closer and bond with my friends outside school."

The in-kingdom adventures took students on a journey through Saudi Arabia's historical treasures. In Tabuk and Alula, they explored ancient forts, mud houses, and archaeological sites, gaining a deeper understanding of the region's rich heritage.

Students that did not wish to travel enjoyed immersive experiences closer to home. A visit to Scitech offered interactive activities exploring the wonders of light and optics set against a backdrop of the Islamic Golden Age with a focus on the story of Ibn Al-Haytham. Other students went on a camping excursion in the desert provided students with the opportunity to bond over communal activities and embrace nature. Activities included volleyball, football, archery, board games, sand sleds and desert paddle.
