ASD Band and Choir Performance

On November 27, 2023, American School Dhahran middle school and high school students performed in the Winter Concert to a room full of families, teachers and students.

The middle school concert featured an exciting new ensemble, ASD Rock Band, in which students performed songs by Bruno Mars and Taylor Swift.  The middle school choir followed with four memorable pieces, and the audience was impressed with the students’ developed skills in playing the flute, claranet,  trombone, trumpet, guitar, ukulele, keyboard, piano, drums and percussion instruments.

The high school choir entertained the audience with the melodies of The Sleigh, And So It Goes, Eleanor Rigby, Roger Emerson, I Wish You Love and September.  The high school band followed with five pieces: Extreme, Snowfall, Mars, Ukrainian Bell Carol and the theme from Mission Impossible, and finally, the high school jazz band concluded the evening with five pieces: Aventura, My Girl, I Like it Like That, Misty and Don’t Stop Believing. There were several solo performances that highlighted the performers’ individual talent and left a lasting impression on the audience.

Beyond the melodies, at ASD we believe these performances underscore the importance of music education in young people’s lives. Music education enhances cognitive skills, and fosters discipline and creativity, and students involved in concerts learn about teamwork and dedication.

Furthermore, music contributes to students' academic growth and also develops well-rounded, emotionally intelligent individuals, as it offers them an outlet for emotional expression and a way to connect with others.

The ASD Winter Concert showcased our musicians' hard work over the last few months. Congratulations to all our students and their teachers on a successful show.  Thanks to Mrs. Lauren Cole and Mr. Ned Fortescue for their work and dedication with our students and the music program. Their efforts are a testament to the transformative power of music education.  We look forward to the next concert in May 2024.
