Student designing a website

In order to achieve ISG's Vision to educate students for success in the world community, ISG understands that students must be effective learners, collaborators, communicators and creators. To be prepared for an unknown future, students must use developmentally appropriate technology tools and have access to authentic audiences and diverse information.

The ISG21 team has built a framework around the needs of the 21st Century Learner in keeping with the latest research and development from both the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and the American Association of School Librarians (AASL). ISTE's National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS-S) and AASL's Standards for the 21st Century Learner have been adapted as the standards and profiles at ISG.

21st Century Literacy Initiative

Mission

ISG is committed to an innovative technology program that enables students to be responsible, self-motivated, and creative pursuers of knowledge. The purpose of every part of this Technology and Digital Literacy plan is to improve student learning through the effective application of technology tools.

Philosophy

ISG’s philosophy of learning is inspired by Bob Pearlman's 'Keys to 21st Century Learning':

  • To learn collaboration → work in teams
  • To learn critical thinking → take on complex problems
  • To learn oral communication → give presentations to authentic audiences
  • To learn written communication → practice meaningful writing
  • To learn creativity → produce something original and useful
  • To develop citizenship →  take on civic and global issues
  • To learn about careers → participate in shadow events and internships
  • To learn content → discover, create, and apply new knowledge
