In a review of current vaccine guidelines, ISG schools have decided to align their vaccine requirements to more closely reflect the vaccine schedule of the Centers for Disease Control in the US, the Saudi Ministry of Health Childhood Vaccine Schedule, and those of our peer school at Saudi Aramco. In short, ISG will require proof of Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and Varicella (chickenpox) vaccines for all NEW students, in addition to the vaccines listed below. Current students are strongly encouraged to consider these vaccinations but will not be required to obtain them.
Minimum Immunization Requirements for Enrollment at ISG Schools PS - Grade 12/Year 13
DPT (Diphtheriae Pertussise Tetanus Vaccine): Minimum 4 doses, appropriately spaced, with last dose at age 4 or older. Minimum age for valid first dose is 6 weeks. NB: A Tdap booster is given at 11-12 years of age. Only one dose of Tdap should be given.
Poliomyelitis Vaccine: OPV (Oral Polio Vaccine) or IPV (Inactivated Polio Vaccine) 4 doses, appropriately spaced, with last dose at age 4 or older. Minimum age for a valid first dose is 6 weeks. NB: For children who received an all-IPV or all-OPV series, a fourth dose is not necessary if the third dose was given at ≥ 4 years. If both OPV and IPV were given as part of a series, a total of 4 doses should be given, regardless of the child’s current age.
DTaP and Polio vaccines: If 4 doses are given before age 4, a fifth dose should be given at 4-6 years.
MMR (Measles Mumps Rubella): 2 doses MMR vaccine for all school aged children and adolescents; the minimum interval between the 2 doses is 4 weeks. First dose at age 12 through 15 months.
Varicella Vaccine (Chickenpox): Two doses of Varicella vaccine (or series in progress), or history of chickenpox disease. Minimum interval between doses for children under the age of 4 is 3 months, for all other children minimal interval between doses is 4 weeks.
Hepatitis A vaccine: Two doses of Hepatitis A vaccine required or series in progress.
Hepatitis B vaccine: Three doses of Hepatitis B vaccine required or series in progress.
Tuberculosis Screening: Students entering ISG schools for the first time will need a current (within 12 months of enrollment) TB skin test or proof of BCG vaccine.
Quadrivalent Meningococcal Vaccine: Proof of a meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4, ACWY) is required within 5 years upon enrollment to an ISG school. This vaccine is given in Saudi routinely at 9 and 12 months, and as part of the routine CDC childhood vaccine schedule at 11-12 years. A booster dose is recommended every 5 years whilst residing in Kingdom.
